Please join us as we welcome the return of Professor Susannah Heschel, the Eli M. Black Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies at Dartmouth, as part of the 25th Anniversary of Sukkat Shalom Guest Scholar Series.

Heschel is an award-winning author of numerous books and articles, is a Guggenheim fellow, and has contributed significant scholarship on the topic of Jewish and Christian interactions in Germany during the 19th and 20th centuries. She is the daughter of Abraham Joshua Heschel, one of the 20th Century's leading Jewish theologians and philosophers. She is a leading feminist, seeking to apply to rabbinic school at the Jewish Theological Seminary when that institution did not ordain women, and she has been an innovator in Jewish practice, starting the custom of adding an orange to the Seder plate to represent the inclusion of marginalized Jews.
