Guest speaker: Don Rose Please join us for a very special lunch, presentation and conversation among men of common experience. Legendary activist, political consultant and journalist, Don Rose, will speak about the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Chicago Democratic National Convention, share anecdotes from his long and colorful history in the rough-and-tumble of Chicago politics, and offer insights on the state of today’s political scene. The cost to attend is $20 and includes lunch and refreshments.

Don Rose, an iconic figure in the history of Chicago, will be the guest speaker at the next Senior Men’s Lunch Group, August 22, noon, in the temple Social Hall.

Rose, a legendary progressive Chicago journalist, political consultant and activist, was a press secretary for Dr. Martin Luther King, ran Jane Byrne’s mayoral campaign, consulted for Harold Washington, Senator Paul Simon, Barack Obama, and many others. As a journalist he’s written for every kind of periodical, from the Hyde Park-Kenwood Voice, to the Chicago Tribune. He also mentored the career of David Axelrod.

In 1968, Rose served as press secretary to the Chicago Mobilization Committee of the SDS, the group that spearheaded the protests at the Democratic National Convention. Learn the inside story of those tumultuous times, anecdotes from Rose’s colorful and accomplished career, and learn from his insights on today’s politics.
