Robb is a graduate of Southern Illinois University and worked as a school teacher before becoming a home inspector and leading a major building and home inspection firm, Metrospect. 

He developed a passion for synagogue buildings, now lost or converted to other purposes, but lingering in memory as touchstones of Jewish experience in Chicago. He has published three books on the topic and is currently working on a new, encyclopedic history of Chicago synagogues and community buildings, 1851-present.
