12:00 PM - 1:15 PMBy ZoomPlease join us as we welcome special guest, Chicago historian Matthew Nickerson, to discuss his book in the "Images of America" series on East Lake View, one of Chicago's most colorful neighborhoods. Change has swept East Lake View many times, often leaving a new name behind. One thing has stayed the same--the neighborhood's popularity. East Lake View drew tourists as far back as 1854, when Lake View House opened as a rural resort. Nickerson will share the history of East Lake View, from the 19th century to the present, from its time as a Swedish enclave, a haven for Japanese Americans, including Tokyo Rose, and as a home to three Jewish congregations.
Interested in Matt's books? There are two on Lake View, which you can learn more about by clicking on these links: East Lakeview Book and Lake View.
Matthew Nickerson studied American history at the University of Chicago, and worked for 25 years as a reporter and editor at five metropolitan Chicago newspapers, most recently on the Tribune's business desk. While a journalist, he got a master’s in European history. In 2014, he paired his newspaper skills and historical knowledge and became a family and company historian.
He is a member of the Chicago History Museum, the Newberry Library, Pritzker Military Museum & Library, and the Chicago Jewish Historical Society.
