For the last year and a half, Sukkat Shalom has had the privilege of sponsoring several refugee families through HIAS, a refugee protection organization. Since May, we have been helping a family from Central African Republic. The family spent the last nine years in a refugee camp in Chad, where their two boys, ages three and six, were born, and are now living in an apartment in Skokie. Getting them settled has involved a lot of work, but all the volunteers find it one of the most rewarding things we've ever done. But we could use some help. We welcome anyone interested in volunteering, no matter how small the time commitment.
